The Catalog of Antimormon Accusations
Do Mormons "Demonize" Their Opponents?
by Woody Brison

This is one leaf of a review of "Inside Mormonism: What Mormons Really Believe" by Isaiah Bennett

Bennett's statement: Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and similar groups resort to a handy dodge when questioned too closely: They "demonize" their opponents. They seem incapable of acknowledging the sincerity of any critique. To them, all who fail to accept their novel beliefs are under Satan's sway, knowingly or not. Any opposition is seen as infernal.

This is very inaccurate, an empty accusation. I have never seen Mormons do this in 40 years of being a member and missionary of the Church, and participating in many internet discussions. I have seen others do it, quite readily in some cases. It's a very counterproductive technique.

There's rarely any occasion where a Mormon who knows the doctrine will be unable to answer when "questioned too closely". Usually, a typical faithful LDS high school student can counfound your typical minister on questions of doctrine. Our doctrine is from the Lord, and his doctrine is sound, easy to understand, and he's quite willing to help the student who honestly wants to know.

Generally the standard Mormon response to lying false criticism is to ignore it. A few of us have made a hobby of opposing it, with evidence, reasoning, creative debate techniques, teaching truth as we expose falsehood. Bennett's charge that we engage in "demonizing" looks like an attempt to get an immunity from a charge we might make, that he indulges in blatant lies. No such immunity will be granted.

Of course, on the internet you never know what someone's affiliation really is.
