Bennett is implying that there was something redacted out of the official account. That there was originally a mention of a seer stone. That the history was sanitized.

Joseph Smith's dictated History, published by himself, never mentioned a seer stone. Joseph had the Urim & Thummim, and always said so. The sanitization is purely Bennett's invention.

This is the kind of fiction you get in a supermarket tabloid - pure invention, and apparently no responsibility felt, to stick to the truth.
